Nepal consists of four species of Musk Deer i.e. Alpine musk deer, Himalayan musk deer, Black musk deer, and Kashmir musk deer. These species have been distributed from 2200m to 4400m asl. All the species of musk deer found in the world are listed as “Endangered” in the IUCN Red list category and Appendix I in CITES. In Nepal these species are protected by National Park and Wildlife Conservation Act 1972. The conservation awareness program was conducted in Khaptad National Park of western Nepal. We had established the Musk Deer Information Centre (MDIC) in the Bajhang district of Khaptad National Park (KNP). The conservation classes was also conducted in the local communities of Chhanna Khaptad Rural Municipality, which is the buffer zone area of KNP.
